Frequently Asked Questions

Legal and certified translations

‣
What’s the difference between certified and sworn translations?

A certified translation comes with a signed statement saying the translation is true and complete. A sworn translation is done by a translator who’s officially registered with a court or legal body – often needed for legal or government use. We offer both, depending on what your situation requires.

‣
When do I need a legal translation for my documents?

You’ll need a legal translation if your documents are being used in court, for immigration or across borders. This includes things like contracts, legal rulings, patents and official letters. It makes sure the meaning holds up in legal or formal settings.

‣
Are your certified translations accepted by UK and EU authorities?

Yes. Our certified translations follow the official rules for both UK and EU use – including for the Home Office, courts and other government departments. If you need it, we can also arrange notarisation or legalisation.

Corporate translation services

‣
What kind of business documents do you translate?

We translate all types of business content – like reports, HR documents, marketing campaigns and internal messages. Our translators know your industry and make sure everything sounds right in the target language.

‣
Do you work with highly regulated industries?

Yes. We regularly work with companies in law, finance, pharma, healthcare and ESG – sectors where every word matters. Our translators understand both the subject and the language.

‣
Can you handle big projects in lots of languages?

Absolutely. We manage large, multi-language projects from start to finish – including strategy, translation, review and quality checks. You’ll have one point of contact throughout.

AI and human translations

‣
Do you use AI or machine translation tools?

Yes, but only specialist AI tools used in the language industry, and only when agreed with you. They help with speed and consistency, but every translation is reviewed and edited by a professional linguist to ensure it’s accurate, culturally aligned and natural. This human-in-the-loop approach gives you reliable quality with the efficiency of AI.

‣
Why not just use Google Translate or ChatGPT?

Free tools often miss context or invent answers, and they can expose your data to open datasets. They’re not reliable for business, legal or professional use. We use secure, specialist technology combined with human translators who understand nuance and ensure your message says exactly what it needs to.

‣
What is post-editing and why is it important?

Post-editing means improving machine translation to meet agreed quality standards. It’s more than checking – it’s refining tone, flow and meaning. When done well, it’s fast, cost-effective and accurate. When done poorly, it can create serious risks. Speak with your Accentua contact to confirm whether post-editing is suitable for your target language, audience and content.

Translation, localisation and transcreation

‣
What’s the difference between translation and localisation?

Translation changes the words. Localisation changes the experience. We adapt content to fit cultural norms, tone, layout and context – so it feels right to your audience, not just readable.

‣
What is transcreation and when should I use it?

Transcreation means rewriting your message in another language while keeping the same intent, tone and emotional impact. It’s ideal for brand campaigns, taglines or marketing content where a literal translation wouldn’t work.

‣
Can you help with tone of voice across languages?

Yes. We work closely with you to define or adapt your tone of voice, then brief linguists accordingly. We can also run in-market reviews to make sure content lands as intended.

Interpreting services

‣
Do you provide interpreting as well as translation?

Yes. We provide professional interpreting for meetings, legal proceedings, notarial appointments, events and virtual calls. All our interpreters are experienced, sector-trained specialists, and we can supply any equipment you need.

‣
What’s the difference between simultaneous and consecutive interpreting?

Consecutive interpreting involves the speaker pausing so the interpreter can translate. It’s used for notarial appointments, business meetings and one-to-one conversations.

Simultaneous interpreting happens in real time and is used for hearings and other fast-paced settings. Interpreters work in pairs and rotate to maintain accuracy.

We provide both and can advise you on the best fit for your setting and content.

‣
Can you provide support with virtual or remote interpreting?

Yes. We offer interpreting for Zoom, Teams and other platforms, with tech support where needed.

Translation of eLearning and training materials

‣
Do you provide translation of global eLearning programmes and online learning that is multi-channel and multi-format?

Yes. We translate onboarding guides, training courses, video scripts and assessments – helping you deliver clear and engaging learning in every language.

‣
Do you work with SCORM or other digital learning formats?

Yes. We work with SCORM, Articulate, Rise, Storyline and other eLearning formats. Our team ensures your content is technically compatible, culturally relevant and ready for global learners.

‣
How do you make training content engaging in other languages?

We use skilled linguists who understand learning design and local culture – so your training feels natural, inclusive and easy to follow.

Quality and compliance

‣
How do you ensure quality in your translations?

Every translation is reviewed and checked by specialists. We follow a strict process that includes proofreading, terminology control and consistency checks – always with human oversight.

‣
Are your services GDPR compliant?

Yes. We are fully GDPR compliant and registered with the UK ICO. Your data is handled securely, and we’re happy to work within your systems or confidentiality requirements.

Project management and workflow

‣
Can you handle urgent or last-minute requests?

Yes. We regularly manage tight deadlines and time-sensitive projects. We’ll always be clear about what’s possible and offer the best solution for your timeframe. And we do everything we can to deliver on time without compromising quality.

‣
Will I have a dedicated contact person?

Yes. You’ll have a single point of contact who understands your brief, tracks progress and keeps communication clear. Behind the scenes, our team share planning and project notes to ensure full continuity and backup.

‣
Do you work with translation memory or CAT tools?

Yes. We use professional CAT tools such as memoQ to maintain consistency, speed up turnaround and support cost-effective workflows. A human linguist always reviews and refines the translation to ensure it’s accurate and natural.
