A recent Slator finding indicated that 79% of American LSP’s researched said there is a shortage of talent in project management and sales personnel in the language industry.  

With this shortage being a recognised challenge, we look at what factors contribute to this:

Advanced Technology Adoption:

• The language services industry has witnessed significant technological advancements, including the integration of AI, MT, and translation management systems. There is a shortage of professionals who are not only proficient in languages but also adept at using and adapting to these technologies. 

Globalisation and Increased Demand: 

• As businesses expand globally, the demand for language services has increased. The growth in demand has outpaced the growth in the number of skilled professionals, resulting in a shortage of talent. 

Freelancer Market Challenges: 

• Many language professionals work as freelancers, and managing a consistent and reliable pool of freelancers can be challenging for LSPs. 

High Quality Expectations: 

• Clients often have high expectations for the quality of language services. LSP’s need professionals who not only possess linguistic skills but also have a deep understanding of cultural nuances and can deliver high-quality translations.
