Text to Speech – a companion to Voice-over rather than a replacement?

When it comes to #eLearning, where do you stand on the question of #TexttoSpeech versus #Voiceover?

Swiftly evolving software technologies mean that #TTS is becoming increasingly sophisticated and adaptive to fit the context of the subject matter being delivered. However, the idea that artificially synthesized speech could completely replace human #VO is still some way off.

Both methods of #audio delivery have their advantages; TTS provides cost, manpower and time efficiencies that are very hard to match within the human VO process, whilst VO provides the truly emotive and subtly nuanced delivery which is still somewhat elusive to TTS technology.

With all this said, at #Accentua we believe both TTS and VO have their place as companions in the L&D space. Whilst the experience of listening to a replica of a human voice is not the same as that of hearing another human being, TTS extends the reach of training content and eases the learning experience for those people who for numerous reasons require aural delivery, by presenting information in a format which is optimal for them.
